A short drive away

Lowther Castle and Gardens is one of the Lake District's most stunning visitor attractions and is 8 minutes drive from Fern Cottage. Surrounded by acres of woodland and ancient gardens, the ruined castle is a stunning place to visit for families of all sizes and ages.

An adventure playground in the woods is amazing for the younger visitor; the gardens are a feast for the imagination; the café offers food for all palates; and the shop sells a range of delightful Lowther and other goodies.

Other local pubs

In addition to the village pub, there are a few others we can highly recommend which are within 5 minutes drive of Fern Cottage;

Both do a great Sunday lunch and booking well ahead is advisable.

A little further but worth it.

If you’re looking for Michelin star pub food, then The Dog & Gun Skelton comes highly recommended too.

Aira Force

There are so many woodland trails to discover in this landscape. Quiet glades give way to dramatic waterfalls, with Aira Beck thundering down a 65-foot drop past ferns and rocks.
